A little known fact
about SMS Global is that it offers a service called "Short Code
Management". With Short Code Management, marketers can opt for the use of
virtual numbers for SMS. In simple terms, this is how SMS Global can work in
the mobile marketing scenario. If you send marketing content via SMS and the
receiver's phone is equipped with a short code system, the SMS will be sent
instantly, as if the content was sent directly to the particular person's
phone. This is what is referred to as "short code messaging". As you
may have realized, the popularity of SMS marketing is growing exponentially
these days.
So, what is so unique
about this feature of SMS Global? The answer lies in the way in which SMS
Global maintains its server list of customer connections and subscribers. On
installation of the mobile application, you would immediately get an API key.
This key is of great value as this is the sole authorization for accessing the
information about customer connection and subscriber. You need to remember this
fact because once you have this reference, you cannot change it, even if you
want to.
In the process of
maintaining connection lists for all the clients and virtual numbers for SMS,
the SMS Global service has devised a number of ways through which the same can
be done. For instance, there are three ways through which this can be achieved.
First, there is the manual way through which information about client and
subscriber is recorded on the database; the second way through which an API key
is given by the client at registration; and the third way through which the
same is granted to the subscriber when his/her subscription for the same is
started.
The manual and second
methods mentioned here involve recording the same manually. There is also the
possibility of including or excluding some of the virtual numbers. This method
however, has the limitation of not allowing the addition or removal of any of
the virtual numbers from the list. The API key method however, does allow such
additions/removals of the same but it comes with the added responsibility of
assigning each and every virtual number its own API key which is unique and
only known to the particular service provider.
The third and most
modern way of sending messages is through Short code application. Unlike the
Global SMS API, no extra effort is required by the end user. The SMS will be
sent with the help of short codes. All that the user needs to do is to add the
required short code(s) in the text message and also where it should be
inserted. It is important to mention here that although this is not yet
considered as secure as the other two, there is absolutely no scope for a third
party to exploit this weakness.
All in all, the above
mentioned discussion has clarified that using sms global and short codes to
send SMS offers better security. Besides this, the ever increasing use of
mobile devices has given rise to the latest technologies like MMS and HSDPA.
Though all of them have their own way of sending messages, still it is possible
to send messages even when the device is away. With the advent of the internet,
there are better ways of keeping in touch with friends and family members,
across the globe.
